Former UFC welterweight standout Erick Silva has officially signed an exclusive multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA, per a recent announcement by the Brazilian’s manager Rafael Cavalcante (later confirmed by MMA Fighting).

While Silva is expected to compete inside of the Bellator cage for the first time later this year, no official date or opponent has been announced.

Silva, 34, returned to the win column this past July when he submitted Nick Barnes at LFA 45. It was the Brazilian’s first fight since he parted ways with UFC in 2017 after his contract expired.

While with UFC, Silva posted a pedestrian 7-8 record but turned in countless memorable Octagon performances. His work included finishes over Josh Koscheck, Jason High, Charlie Brenneman, and Luan Chagas, while losing to notable fighters such as Jon Fitch, Matt Brown, Dong Hyun Kim, and Neil Magny.

The accomplished veteran is far removed from his days as a talented contender, but it seems like he still has a lot left in the tank. He should fit in well in an explosive Bellator welterweight division that boasts countless opponents willing to throw down.

We’ll have to wait and see if Silva can rejuvenate his career in a new organization looking for star power.
