UFC 228 results: Tyron Woodley vs Darren Till live stream play-by-play updates

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rolls into “The Lone Star State” TONIGHT (Sat., Sept. 8, 2018) with its UFC 228: “Woodley vs. Till” pay-per-view (PPV) mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which will take place inside America Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, with select “Prelims” undercard bouts coming to you by way of FX and the UFC Fight Pass digital network. As the name suggests, UFC 228 is headlined by the welterweight showdown between reigning 170-pound kingpin, Tyron Woodley, and undefeated title contender, Darren Till, who collide for “The Chosen One’s” division strap. In the UFC 228 championship co-headliner, Nicco Montano, was supposed to make her very first flyweight title defense against former bantamweight No. 1 contender, Valentina Shevchenko; however, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 26 champion was hospitalized early Friday morning and eventually pulled from the card altogether for health-related concerns and then stripped of her belt.

OOF. Nevertheless, the show must — and will — go on. And UFC 228 is teed up to be a fun one.

170 lbs.: UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley vs. Darren Till

Round 1: Woodley looking aggressive early, lands a knee and grabs double underhooks. Outside trip isn’t there. Still pressing Till against the cage, but the ref separates them a minute in. Both showing feints. Overhand right grazes Till. Two minutes in. Woodley slings another right, blocked. Body kick attempt. Two minutes to go.

Woodley tries a body shot, falls short. Single-leg denied, but he takes Till to the fence. Foot stomps, knees. One minute to go. More knees to the thigh. Till reverses. Ref separates them again. Woodley to the body. Till tries to sneak a left through the guard. 10-9 Woodley.

Round 2: Till tries to step in and gets bombed by a straight right. Woodley follows him down and smashes him with punches and elbows. Massive elbows a minute in. Woodley postures up, lands punches. Till tries to turn for an armbar without success. Half guard for Woodley. More elbows. He passes to mount and Till tries to sweep, no dice. Deep half guard for Till. Yet more elbows from the champ. Two minutes to go.

Woodley gets a bit of space and lands hard right hands. Now he’s looking to set up a d’arce. He brings his weight down and draws the tap.

115 lbs.: Jessica Andrade vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz

Round 1: Andrade swarming right away and stings Kowalkiewicz with hooks. Andrade just storming after her, lands another heavy right hand. Kowalkiewicz fires a combo in return. Good right hand. Left hook from Andrade. 1-2 from Kowalkiewicz and they trade knees inside. Right hand knocks Kowalkiewicz back a minute in. Kowalkiewicz blasts her with a straight right and uppercut. 3-2 by the Brazilian, more shots in return by the Pole. HUGE OVERHAND RIGHT AND KOWALKIEWICZ IS OUT!

Final result: Andrade def. Kowalkiewicz by KO (punch)


145 lbs.: Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Brandon Davis

Round 1: Low kicks from Davis to start. Head kick attempt. One minute in. Still nothing much from Magomedsharipov so far. Jab connects for Davis. Step-in jab from Magomedsharipov, who eats another leg kick. Two minutes in. Body kick from Davis. Magomedsharipov catches a kick and fires a pair of counters. He goes for a judo throw, doesn’t land. Right hand by Davis. Counter left hook by Magomedsharipov and Davis waves him on. Two minutes to go.

Jab from Magomedsharipov, low kicks from Davis. Magomedsharipov lands a right hand. Jumping switch kick attempt with a minute to go. Magomedsharipov avoids a right hand and changes levels. High-amplitude suplex gets Davis down, can’t keep him there. Magomedsharipov tries a wheel kick and rips the body. 10-9 Magomedsharipov.

Round 2: Davis fires more leg kicks and Magomedsharipov ties up, nearly putting in both hooks. Outside trip gets Davis to the mat. Davis works his way up a minute in, gets pulled back down. Knees to the thigh from Magomedsharipov. Suplex by Magomedsharipov two minutes in. Davis again makes it to his feet. One hook in for Magomedsharipov, who lands some hard punches under the armpit. Davis gets double underhooks and separates. Body kick from Magomedsharipov met by a low kick. Left hook by Magomedsharipov. There’s that throw he loves and this time he establishes back control. Round 1: Dodson pumping the left hand early. Low kick lands for him. He catches a Rivera body kick and lands lefts against the fence a minute in. Glancing low kick from Rivera. Hard lead right lands clean for him. High kick from Dodson just blocked. Rivera low kick. Two minutes in. Body lock from Rivera, attempted suplex doesn’t work. Counter jab by Rivera after blocking a head kick. Two minutes to go.

More Rivera low kicks. 1-2 from Dodson. Both land their power hands and Rivera follows up with another right. One minute to go. Combination connects. Rivera lands a counter to the body and eats a left hand after slipping. More counters by Rivera. 10-9 Rivera.

Round 2: Rivera staying committed to the leg kicks. Dodson lands a left, walks into one. They trade near the center. One minute in. Another quick exchange. Dodson checks the next leg kick and counters a body kick afterwards. Lead right lands for Rivera. Counter left hook. Two minutes in. Body shots land for Rivera. He just keeps catching Dodson coming in. Good body kick lands for Dodson. Two minutes to go.

Dodson connects with a straight left. He tries to spin. Rivera still in control. Dodson eats a kick to the balls. One minute to go. Rivera lands a right hand, lands a counter body shot. Dodson body kick. Another body kick, Rivera tries to use it for a single-leg. 10-9 Rivera.

Round 3: More quick exchanges, no clean contact. Left hook rattles Dodson for a moment. Inside low kick trips Dodson up. Nasty counter right by Rivera. Body shots. Leg kick exchange a minute in. Rivera digs a right hand to the body. Two minutes in. Right hand upstairs as both try to kick. Counter left from Rivera. Two minutes to go.

Body kick from Dodson, leg kick from Rivera. They exchange. Low-high goes Rivera. One minute to go. They come together, neither connects. Lead right by Rivera. Both land their power hands and they end the fight digging body shots in the clinch. 10-9 Rivera.

170 lbs.: Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Niko Price

Round 1: Price counters a low kick with a 1-2. They’re trading bombs and Price gets rocked by an overhand right. “Judo Thunder” unloads with hooks against the cage until a left-right combo knocks Price into oblivion.

Final result: Alhassan def. Price by KO (punches)


115 lbs.: Carla Esparza vs. Tatiana Suarez

Round 1: Suarez shoots early, taking Esparza all the way to the cage and dragging her to the mat. Right hands from Suarez. Elbows, too. Esparza grabs her wrists and gets slammed for her trouble. Another nasty elbow. Another. Esparza turns for an armbar attempt, can’t keep the elbow in. Esparza sporting some bumps as she tries to stand. She makes it to her feet, gets wrangled back down. Half guard, then full with more shots landing. Two minutes to go.

More elbows. Right hands while postures. Esparza continuing to try and use the cage to make it to her feet. One minute to go. Hammerfists landing hard. All of these sound like they hurt. She kicks Suarez off, eats punches as she tries to rise. Just a straight-up mauling at this point. 10-8 Suarez.

Round 2: Suarez lands a side kick, shoots, and chain-wrestles her way to another takedown. Esparza still struggling to get to her feet, nearly gets mounted. One minute in. Esparza makes it up, lands knees to the body. One from Suarez in return. Jockeying for position around the cage. Suarez hits a body lock takedown into side control. Two minutes in. Suarez looks for mount, Esparza regains guard. BIG elbow. Two minutes to go.

Esparza makes it to her feet. Suarez trips her down into side control again. Esparza suddenly manages to roll to her knees, then stops the follow-up shot with a whizzer. One minute to go. Esparza limp-legs out. Suarez just shoots again and takes her back into side control. More elbows. 10-9 Suarez.

Round 3: Esparza shoots first this time. Suarez denies it and takes it down despite Esparza’s underhooks, scrambling through into top position. Esparza up, Esparza back down via body lock. One minute in. Side control for Suarez. Esparza still rolling, still trying to fight. She makes it to her knees, nearly gives up her back. Suarez in quarter mount, landing punches. Esparza kicks her away and regains guard. Side control with two minutes to go.

North-south now. Right hands by Suarez, who finally gets full mount. One minute to go. Big elbows from Suarez. Postured-up punches and hammerfists and it’s too much for the ref.

Final result: Suarez def. Esparza by TKO (punches and elbows)


135 lbs.: Cody Stamann vs. Aljamain Sterling

Round 1: Both look for head kicks early. Sterling follows his with a right hand. Stamann looking aggressive. Sterling shoots, can’t get the single-leg. One minute in. Sterling to the body. Body kick from Sterling. Low kick this time. Head kick attempt, check right hook. Wheel kick attempt and he shoots. Two minutes in. Stamann with a nice use of an underhook to reverses. Knee to the body by Stamann. He changes levels, stuffed. Two minutes to go.

Right hook from Sterling, check hook after his single-leg gets stuffed. Sterling connects with a spinning back fist, gets taken down, looks for a kneebar. Scramble ensues and Stamann gets on top in guard. Sterling quickly wraps up a triangle with a minute to go. Stamann survives. Sterling makes it to his feet and changes levels. Knee from Stamann. Both try to take the other’s back and Stamann hits a slam. 10-9 Sterling.

Round 2: Stamann fires a head kick. Low kick from Stamann caught. Sterling with a well-timed level change, no dice. Stamann slips while throwing a low kick. Now he gives up his back and Sterling puts in a hook. One minute in. Stemann makes it to his feet, Sterling still attached. Good knee from Sterling. Stamann counters with a blast double. Sterling stands against the fence. Two minutes to go. Knee from Sterling on the break, teep from Stamann. Sterling ties up and Stamann goes for his own rolling kneebar, only to surrender side control. Now mount for Sterling. Good punches. he takes the back and flattens Stamann out. Two minutes to go.

Sterling tries a bizarre full nelson-looking sub, then goes back to pounding Stamann. when Stamann stands, Sterling reaches for his ankle and draws a tap with the Suloev stretch.

Final result: Sterling def. Stamann by submission (Suloev stretch)


170 lbs.: Frank Camacho vs. Geoff Neal

Round 1: 1-2 from Neal to start. Head kick lands for him, Camacho tries to flurry. One minute in. Low kick from Camacho. Counter left form Neal glances off, left hook comes back from Camacho. Right hook and head kick by Neal. Counter left cross. Two minutes in. Camacho jabs the body, walks into a left hook, knocked back by a 1-2. Another head kick from Neal. 1-2 connects. Check right hook. Hard right hook with two minutes to go.

Double straight left connects. Neal tries a combo, Camacho puts him on the fence. Lead left from Neal after they separate. Again. One minute to go. Body kick and body punch from Camacho, who eats a 2-3-2. Camacho fakes a takedown, eats a left cross. Another left flattens Camacho, who somehow survives the ensuing onslaught. 10-8 Neal.

Round 2: Camacho ducks for a single-leg. Neal avoids it, clips him with a left hand. Neal tearing into him on the cage but Camacho trying to throw back. War cry from Camacho after absorbing a flying knee. Right hook from Neal a minute in. Left hand and Camacho teeters for a moment. Clean head kick and he teeters all the way down. Knocked the F out.

Final result: Neal def. Camacho by KO (head kick)


185 lbs.: Charles Byrd vs. Darren Stewart

Round 1: Right hand from Byrd, body kick, failed takedown attempt. He takes Stewart to the fence, gets reversed. Jockeying for position, trading knees. One minute in. They separate. Jab from Byrd. Another. BIG right hand and uppercut from Byrd, Stewart denies another takedown. Two minutes in. Byrd wrangles him down, tries to grab a guillotine on the way up. Double unders for Stewart against the cage. Knee to the body from Stewart and they trade elbows. Two minutes to go.

Lead right from Byrd into the clinch. Short elbow by Stewart on the break. Byrd fires a pair of head kicks, clinches. Good elbow from Byrd on the break. One minute to go. Byrd shoots, stuffed. Another nice elbow from Byrd .Again. Stewart with a knee downstairs. They trade elbows. 10-9 Byrd.

Round 2: Low kick from Byrd. Back to the clinch. Knee from Stewart. Harder one on the exit. Right cross by Byrd. Left hook. Clinch a minute in. Hard right on the break. Two big rights by Byrd and Stewart is reeling. He ties up. Suddenly, Stewart rattles Byrd and presses the advantage. Stewart pouring it on against the cage, puts him down with an elbow.

Final result: Stewart def. Byrd by TKO (elbows)


170 lbs.: Diego Sanchez vs. Craig White

Round 1: Sanchez charges in, avoids a palm-to-palm guillotine, and slams White to the mat. Nice upkick from White. One minute in. White constantly threatening. Sanchez still heavy on top. He looks to pass, lands a right hand. Now some elbows. Two minutes to go.

Hard right hands by Sanchez through White’s legs. Side control for Sanchez. White lands a punch off his back. Sanchez tries to threaten an arm with a minute to go. Sanchez stands over him and lands some nasty punches. He takes side control and keeps hitting, shrugging off an elbow. 10-8 Sanchez.

Round 2: White presses forward, lands a massive knee, gets taken down anyway. Sanchez postures up, eats the biggest upkick yet and returns to the ground to recover. One minute in. Another hard upkick. Sanchez sneaks some right hands through. Another upkick. Elbows from Sanchez in return. Sanchez stands over him, looks to pass to side control. Two minutes to go.

Knees to the body from Sanchez. White tries a Liam McGeary-esque keylock off his back without success. White getting teabagged as DC giggles. Back to guard. Hard hammerfists by Sanchez, then back to sitting on White’s face. 10-9 Sanchez.

Round 3: White wades after Sanchez, drops him with a right hand. Sanchez drives through for a takedown into guard. Nice elbows from Sanchez. One minute in. White still trying to land upkicks. More elbows from Sanchez. Two minutes in. Sanchez continuing to stay heavy, looking to pass. Side control for Sanchez. Two minutes to go.

White eventually manages to regain guard, eats elbows for his trouble. One minute to go. Sanchez postures, blocks the desperate upkicks. White’s still going for them, at least. More elbows from Sanchez and a flurry of punches before the bell. 10-8 Sanchez.

Final result: Sanchez def. White by unanimous decision


155 lbs.: Jim Miller vs. Alex White

Round 1: Low kick from Miller. To the inside now. White wades in, brief clinch. Straight left connects for Miller. He pushes forward and downs White with another left hand. Looking to pound White out. Miller transitions to a no-hooks RNC when White tries to stand and draws the tap.

Final result: Miller def. White by submission (rear naked choke)


135 lbs.: Irene Aldana vs. Lucie Pudilova

Round 1: Aldana opens with a jab. Tentative start from both women. Counter left by Pudilova. Aldana uncorks a three-punch combo, avoiding the retaliatory rush. One minute in. Inside low kick from Aldana. Same from Pudilova. 2-1 from Aldana. Low leg kick answered by a Pudilova 1-2. Jab exchange. Aldana with a nasty counter right and they trade rights soon after. Two minutes to go.

Low kick by Aldana. Pudilova unable to chase her down, can’t land the Superman punch. Sharp jab by Pudilova. Aldana lands one in return and a backstep right cross. Pudilova lands a right over the jab. One minute to go. Trading jabs. Counter right by Aldana. Pudilova leg kicks and 1-2. Heavy aggression by Pudilova and a front kick to the face. Aldana blasts her with a spinning back fist in return. 10-9 Aldana.

Round 2: Pudilova continuing to stay aggressive. Hard rights from both women. Low kick from Aldana. One minute in. 1-2 from Pudilova. Head kick attempt, jab trade. BIG right hand by Aldana, Pudilova walks through it. Aldana tries to spin. Superman punch from Pudilova met by a right hand. Another right by Aldana, stung by a jab two minutes in. 1-2 by Pudilova. She checks some leg kicks, eats one soon after. Uppercut from Aldana. Aldana on the front foot, walking Pudilova down. Sharp jab by Pudilova with a minute to go. Aldana leg kick. Leg kick from Pudilova in return. Aldana with a nice combo, eats a left hook in return. Thry trade jabs and Pudilova stuffs a takedown. Pudilova lands an elbow over the top. 10-9 Aldana.

Round 3: Leg kick from Aldana, right hand. 1-2 by Pudilova. Aldana leg kicks met by a body kick. Counter right by Pudilova soon after, nice jab. Cross counter by Aldana, another leg kick. One minute in. 1-2-3 by Pudilova. Cross counter by Aldana, sharp uppercut. Pudilova’s nose leaking. Low kick by Aldana, jabs from Pudilova. Two minutes in. Pudilova tries a leg kick, eats one to the rear leg. Nice trade in the center. Aldana tries to spin. Counter combo by Aldana. Two minutes to go.

125 lbs.: Roberto Sanchez vs. Jarred Brooks

Round 1: Brooks lands a right hand, the first blow of the fight. Sanchez comes back with a left hook soon after. Sanchez shoots in against the cage. Brooks looking for a butt drag to take the back. One minute in. Sanchez on top for the moment. Brooks loses it and Sanchez uses a cradle to look to pass. Brooks defending with a knee. Two minutes in. Brooks turns for a heel hook. Sanchez rolls through and starts landing hammerfsits. Elbows to the thighs as well. Two minutes to go.

Brooks still looking for the leg, but he’s eating some solid punches. Sanchez pulls his knee free and Brooks switches legs. He abandons it and scrambles up, taking a couple knees with a minute to go. Brooks briefly tries to frame a ninja choke. Good takedown defense. 10-9 Sanchez.

Round 2: Sanchez looking aggressive. He ducks in for a single-leg and takes Brooks to the fence. He winds up pulling Brooks on top of him in a takedown attempt, then scrambles up a minute in. Brooks with a body lock. Still driving, lands a knee. Two minutes to go. Sanchez nearly transitions to Brooks’ back, but lands on his back in guard. He tries a straight armbar without success. Two minutes to go.

Brooks heavy on top, landing short punches. Brooks unable to pass. One minute to go. Brooks opens up a bit near the end and avoids an armbar. 10-9 Brooks.

Round 3: Brooks connects with a spinning back fist and avoids one in return. They lock up and Brooks hauls him to the fence with double unders. One minute on. Brooks manages to pull his legs out and take side control. Sanchez controlling Brooks’ right arm. Two minutes in. Sanchez rolls to his knees, Brooks sprawling on him. Two minutes to go.

Brooks forces Sanchez to his back via front headlock. To guard once again. One minute to go. Brooks now opening up. Sanchez trying to strike off of his back. Some nice elbows from Brooks at the bell. 10-9 Brooks.

Final result: Brooks def. Sanchez by split decision
