Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title contender, Stephen Thompson, is once again calling for ex-division kingpin, Robbie Lawler, for a 170-pound showdown that will hopefully take place in first quarter 2019.
Assuming “Ruthless” wants to play ball.
“I heard you’re going to be ready early next year [Robbie Lawler], I know a guy who will be ready then too,” Thompson wrote on social media. “Let’s give the fans what they want! I’m bringing the heat back, and you know this fight will be FIRE!”
Thompson (14-3-1) jumped out to an electric 13-1 start to his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, but after battling to a five-round draw against Tyron Woodley at UFC 205 in New York, “Wonderboy” is just 1-2, all of which were decisions.
Lawler (28-12, 1 NC), meanwhile, was creamed by “The Chosen One” at UFC 201 in Atlanta, and has appeared just twice in the aftermath, splitting a pair of decisions against Donald Cerrone (W) and Rafael dos Anjos (L).
