Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight bruiser, Sam Alvey, decided to trade leather with 205-pound veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at the UFC Fight Night 137 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1 last weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Bad idea.
Alvey was melted by the hometown hero early into the second stanza (watch it), snapping a two-fight win streak and sending the “Smile’N” slugger back to the States without a win bonus. Which is perhaps why the 32 year-old striker vows to never lose again.
“It was fun here in Brazil, and I’m sorry I’m leaving a loser, but next I’m in the cage — maybe Milwaukee, I’m pushing for it,” Alvey said (transcribed by BJPenn.com). “I’d love to fight in my hometown. I’m going to go to a Brazilian steakhouse before I get on the plane, then I’ll be back to the States to train, get better, and I’m never going to lose again. You watch it happen — or watch it not happen?”
Alvey is referring to the upcoming UFC on FOX 31 combat sports extravaganza, set for Sat., Dec. 15, 2018 inside Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event is currently without a headliner, but does feature Dan Hooker vs. Edson Barboza and Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Andrea Lee, just to name a few.
That gives Alvey (33-11, 1 NC) plenty of time to get dusted off (and medically cleared) for his latest 205-pound pairing. While the light heavyweight field is wide open, I wouldn’t mind watching him square off against the rebounding Nikita Krylov.
