I don’t know Tyron Woodley personally, but I can’t help wonder if last week’s decision to undergo hand surgery was less about repairing damage to his welterweight mitt and more about making Colby Covington sit on the sidelines and wait for his title shot, yet again, simply because it would drive “Chaos” crazy.
If that’s the case, then “The Chosen One” got the reaction he was looking for on social media, as Covington vented to his Twitter followers about the latest delay, which is likely to have their 170-pound grudge match landing somewhere in first quarter 2019.
“That brittle bitch fights 1.5 rounds in 14 months and needs another ‘surgery?’ Quit playing games Tyrone.” Covington said. “You know whenever those nerds get done putting you back together, I’m just gonna tear you apart and end you for good. Accept your fate or be stripped of your No. 1 contender spot.”
Covington may be in a bit of a pot/kettle situation after recently turning down a Woodley title fight to repair some lingering issues with his nose, which elevated top contender Darren Till into the UFC 228 main event. Woodley won that fight by second-round submission.
The only downside is mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will be subjected to another three-to-six months of back-and-forth banter between the two, with top contender and part-time stand-by guy Kamaru Usman lurking somewhere in the background.
