I know weight-cutting issues are not funny, but I couldn’t help but laugh at former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bantamweight champion Renan Barao, who stepped onto the scale completely bewildered by his own weight, looking like he was supposed to give a big speech and forgot all his notes.
The Brazilian was asked to make the 135-pound limit for his UFC Fight Night 137 showdown against Octagon newcomer Andre Ewell this Saturday night (Sept. 22, 2018) in Sao Paulo, and even with the one-pound allowance afforded in non-title fights, Barao wasn’t even close.
Fight between Renan Barao and Andre Ewell is on. Barao will forfeit 30 percent of his purse and it will all go to Ewell, as the commission gave up their 10 percent. CABMMA says no cap was put on how much Barao is allowed to weigh tomorrow.

Maybe he thought he was competing at featherweight?
Since there is no chance he’s going to cut the rest of the required weight and end up back in the hospital, Barao will be fined for his infraction — payable to Ewell — and sent back up to 145 pounds for his next fight. Unless he loses, which would make him 2-6 since coughing up his bantamweight crown and in danger of getting his promotion pink slip.
