Midnight Mania! McGregor tells Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘If you pull out, may God have mercy on your soul’

New, comments

Bringing you weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight ...

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

At the very watched press conference today, an agitated Conor McGregor dropped his best verbal lines on Khabib Nurmagomedov, promoted his new whiskey brand, shouted and postured and glared and made some geopolitical commentary about real-life murderous dictators that seemed possibly unsafe in a sporting context. He bragged and threatened, offered Khabib whiskey for his ‘birthday’ (which the Dagestani turned down, saying he doesn’t drink), pointed out that Khabib’s manager Ali Abelaziz has an abandoned son, Noah. McGregor did his research.

None of it seemed to get to Khabib even a little bit, until McGregor mentioned that Khabib better not pull out of the bout. Khabib has a history of injury that has kept him out of the Octagon for years at a time. He and former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson have four cancelled bouts between them, two of them a result of Nurmagomedov withdrawing from the bout. He has pulled out of two scheduled fights with Donald Cerrone, so McGregor’s comment seemed to hit a raw nerve. You can skip to 54:45 above and watch the exchange.

I hope so, because if you pull out, like you always do pull out, may God have mercy on your soul, trust me on that.

Khabib: Woah, woah. Who pulls out?

McGregor: You, you little pullout merchant.

Khabib went back to re-litigating the day McGregor threw a dolly at the bus Nurmagomedov was sitting on, asking why McGregor didn’t send a message to face him one on one. McGregor responded by re-iterating that Khabib sat on the bus taking a shit while McGregor assaulted it.

It was a wild time had by all.

You still have to feel sorry that Nicco Montano didn’t get to cash in a fight as champion, but Valentina Shevchenko vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk is the best fight that could be made in the 125-lb. division.

Dustin Poirier had an idea for his fight with Nate Diaz, and it is a good idea, but welterweight would need to be moved to 175.

Georges St. Pierre thought this was hilarious.

They gambled and didn’t win

Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone doing what he does, barefoot’n on the water.

This guy just walked up and threw a jumping switchkick.

Michael Trator is a lightweight, but the man is rolling with middleweight Paulo Costa.

So are the fighters and former fighters flaming Jones for being a snitch.

Tom Lawlor also flamed USADA and the UFC in general.

So did Khabib, or whoever is running his account.
