Hey, remember back in April when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White told the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that Daniel Cormier — not Jon Jones — was the greatest light heavyweight of all time?
Yeah, he was just kidding.
Or perhaps he was trying to sell “DC” to a bunch of up-and-coming fighters (and a casual audience) when Cormier was coaching season 27 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Either way, that opinion has changed now that “Teflon Jon” is back in business.
“Jon Jones ... and many people will tell you this ... is probably the greatest of all time,” White told ESPN’s First Take. “I think Jon Jones is the greatest fighter to ever step foot inside the Octagon. If he could have kept his personal life on track, God knows what this guy would be doing right now.”
Jones was will be reinstated by UFC next month after serving a reduced sentence from United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). That means White has to promote “Bones” for an upcoming pay-per-view (PPV), so I guess he’s “fixable” after all.
There were rumors of a UFC 230 return; however, White continues to put Jones back inside the Octagon in first-quarter 2019 against an opponent to be named. With Daniel Cormier tied up with Brock Lesnar, the next logical choice would be that Alexander Gustafsson rematch.
Time till tell.
