No big boxing day would be complete without a Floyd Mayweather Jr. troll.
That’s exactly what the 41-year-old offered fight fans earlier today when he revealed that he plans to meet Manny Pacquiao in a rematch later this year. This comes on the doorstep of a massive super fight reboot between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez later this evening in Las Vegas (live results here).
Mayweather and Pacquiao can be seen in the above video talking at a very loud concert and agreeing to a rematch in 2018.
“I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year,” wrote Mayweather in his Instagram post. “Another 9 figure pay day on the way.”
Mayweather, who extended his undefeated boxing record to 50-0 with a TKO win over UFC superstar Conor McGregor last summer, defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision back in 2015. It remains the highest grossing combat fight of all time, although “Pac Man” believes a shoulder injury hampered his overall efforts that night.
While Mayweather has been rumored to be making his mixed martial arts (MMA) debut at some point in the future, and Pacquiao linked to a boxing superfight with “Notorious,” the two legendary boxers have seemingly agreed to a rematch this year.
How much weight that holds on the day of a GGG vs. Canelo mega fight has yet to be seen. But at this point, anything is possible when “Money” is involved.
