Long-time mixed martial arts (MMA) and professional kickboxing fan favorite “No Mercy” Melvin Manhoef is more than a fighter — he’s also a promoter — and Bellator MMA is seeking to take advantage of his talents in both areas.
Bellator MMA recently announced that it has reached an agreement with Manhoef’s promotion, World Fighting League (WFL), to sign the winners from its Heavyweight “Super 8” Grand Prix and MMA Lightweight tournaments. These events take place next weekend (Sat., Sept. 22, 2018 through Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018) from inside Topsportcentrum in Almere, Netherlands, airing on Spike NL.
WFL’s “Super 8” is a K-1 style kickboxing tournament with one man needing to win three fights to get the title and, ultimately, a Bellator contract. The first round matches include Murat Aygun vs. Fabio Kwasi, Sam Tevette vs. Clyde Brunswijk, Andrei Stoica vs. “Boy Boy” Martin and Fred Sikking vs. Nordine Mahieddine.
Meanwhile, in the MMA Lightweight tournament, Pieter Buist (13-4) meets Soli Abdeselam Mohamed (4-3) in the finals. “The Archangel” Buist is on a four-fight win streak coming into the bout, while “Sully Bull” Mohamed has a two-fight win streak of his own.
