Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is close to finalizing a co-main event between Top 5 heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov for its upcoming UFC 229 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sat., Oct. 6, 2018 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s according to a report from ESPN.
Lewis (20-5, 1 NC) is coming off back-to-back wins over Marcin Tybura and Francis Ngannou, the latter of which drew heavy criticism for its lack of action. Outside of that hiccup, “Black Beast” is 8-1 over the last three years with six knockouts.
The streaking Volkov (30-6) captured the biggest win of his Octagon career when he planished Fabricio Werdum in the UFC London main event back in March. “Drago” is now the winner of six straight with four finishes.
Who ya’ got?
UFC 229 is expected to feature the return of former lightweight champion and PPV money machine Conor McGregor, who collides with reigning 155-pound kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov in the five-round main event.
