It wasn’t a perfect performance for Marlon Vera earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 4, 2018) at UFC 227 from inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., but “Chito” ultimately got it done against Wuliji Buren to the tune of a second-round TKO finish.
Buren was the aggressor in the early going. He was able to land some good hands inside before eventually taking Vera down and controlling the fight. In the second round, Vera got back to basics and started to engage first. After some good ground-and-pound along the cage he caught Wuliji with a beautiful left hook to the liver as “Beastmaster” was returning to his feet. Wuliji immediately fell to the canvas and referee Frank Trigg jumped on top for the stoppage before Vera could do any more damage.

With this performance, Vera gets back into the win column after losing back-to-back decisions to Brazilian fighters John Lineker and Douglas Silva de Andrade. At just 25 years of age, Vera is quickly turning into one of the most entertaining fighters at 135 pounds. If he can continue to evolve and press opponents until they fold he may turn into a legitimate contender in 2019.
