The television audience for ONE Championship’s live events has grown tenfold according to data released by the promotion this week. Citing Nielsen, the Singapore-based organization showed that the average audience for a show grew from less than one million in 2015 to 11 million in 2018.
By contrast, the figures released by ONE Championship show that the NBA has an average global television audience of just four million per event, although with 1230 matches during the regular season, this still represents a significant number of viewers for the basketball league.
So far ONE Championship has held 13 events in 2018. According to the promotion’s Chairman / CEO Chatri Sityodtong, this year has seen all viewing records shattered,
“In 2018, ONE Championship registered an average of 11 million viewers per live event across its core markets according to Nielsen. (Including non-core markets, this number was even larger). In 2015, this figure was less than one million viewers per live event.”
He believes that this figure is going to increase significantly in coming years.
“My personal goal is to reach 100 million viewers per live event within the next three years through a combination of organic growth and new markets.”
This week, ONE Championship held a press conference and open workout in Bangkok to publicize its first foray into the boxing business. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will defend his WBC 115-pound title against Iran Diaz at the Impact Arena on October 6th.
The event will be broadcast live in Thailand by both Workpoint TV and Thai Rath TV and will be able to view free using the ONE Championship app. There are also events booked for Shanghai and Jakarta in September.
