UFC 228 free fight video: Watch Tyron Woodley begin title reign by knocking out Robbie Lawler

Before Tyron Woodley puts his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight belt on the line against Darren Till at the upcoming UFC 228 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sept. 8, 2018, let’s take a look a trip down memory lane to see where “The Chosen One’s” rise to glory all began.

Back in 2016, Woodley headed into UFC 201 riding high off a close, split-decision win over a tough Kelvin Gastelum to earn his first-ever shot at a UFC title. His prize? A showdown against one of the hardest hitters in all of mixed martial arts, Robbie Lawler, who at the time was the 170-pound kingpin with consecutive defenses against Carlos Condit and Rory MacDonald.

The first two minutes of action was pretty much a feeling out process, as both Robbie and Tyron were playing the cautious game, analyzing one another while waiting for the perfect opening. In the blink of an eye, though, Woodley blitzed in with a vicious right hand that floored “Ruthless,” and proceeded to follow it up with five powerful and unanswered blows to force a stoppage early.

Since then, “The Chosen One” has been doing his part to make his case for greatest welterweight of all time, defending his title three times, twice against Stephen Thompson and then again against Demian Maia. Up next for Woodley is a showdown against Darren till, which is set to headline UFC 228 on Sept. 8 in Dallas, Texas.
