UFC Fight Night 135 results: Cortney Casey edges past Angela Hill via split decision

MMA: UFC 211-Aguilar vs Casey Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Cortney Casey and Angela Hill faced off last night (Sat., August 25, 2018) from inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, live and free on Fox Sports 1.

Angela Hill opened the bout with jabs and leg kicks, while Casey, a bit more flat-footed, tried to counter. Hill landed an overhand right and then dumped Casey to the mat with a caught kick. They clinched, Hill landed a body knee. They were trading in high volume, Hill connecting with hooks but eating plenty of counters in return. She landed a dipping jab on Casey, who ducked in for a mid-body shot, taking Hill down. Hill rolled for an armbar attempt, which looked tight, but Casey stacked her and pulled her elbow out of danger. Hill spun in for her own takedown attempt. She landed a knee to the face and an elbow as Casey stood. Hill was ducking in as Casey threw and landed a big right hand and an elbow as the round came to an end.

They quickly started swinging punches in the second round, Casey seeming to hurt Hill with a straight right to the chin. Hill clinched until she got her composure back and they returned to winging punches at each other. Casey landed a good hook, shot in, got Hill down momentarily but Hill fought her way back up. Hill landed a leg kick, then another. Hill rocked Casey momentarily with a hook of her own. They traded kicks to the arms. Hill landed a jab, just avoided a counter knee. Hill was pressuring, threw a massive arcing elbow as the round wore down.

Both fighters were landing well in the third round, trading quick moments of back and forth success. Casey ran forward with a shifting combination, but when she stopped, Hill landed a counter combination of her own. Hill stuffed a takedown attempt, ate a combination, landed one of her won. The commentators were rightly saying that this would be a hard fight to judge,as both fighters had been landing evenly with high volume. Hill landed a counter uppercut, then a big overhand as the third round closed.

Casey said she wouldn’t mind fighting Mackenzie (meaning Dern, I assume) in the post-fight interview.

Official result: Courtney Casey def. Angela Hill via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
