Joanne Calderwood made the most out of her return to flyweight earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 25, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 135 from inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, when she tapped out Brazilian veteran Kalindra Faria via first-round triangle arm bar.
It was all Faria from the opening bell. She got inside with a combination and then snapped Calderwood to the canvas. From there, Faria dominated from top control and landed big punches in spurts. Calderwood remained patient and finally attacked with a triangle choke attempt. Faria outlasted the pressure but left her arm free when she pulled her head out. “JoJo” didn’t bat an eye and quickly locked in the triangle arm bar, forcing Faria to tap.

With this performance, Calderwood gets back in the win column after losing her last two Octagon appearances as a strawweight. The talented Scottish striker was put in harms’ way tonight but proved her game is more than just punches, kicks, and knees. This was her first career win by submission which should only charge Calderwood up heading into the final months of 2018.
