UFC’s Desmond Green involved in fatal five-vehicle crash, suffers minor injuries

Four-fight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran, Desmond Green, triggered a fatal five-vehicle crash this past weekend (Sat., Aug. 18, 2018), on Interstate 75 in Davie, Fla., according to ABC Local 10 News (click the link to watch video of the aftermath).

The good news for Green is that he suffered only minor injuries; however, two people were killed in the crash and another individual is currently in the hospital “fighting for her life” with “serious injuries.”

Here’s how the deadly crash apparently unfolded (via lvaro Feola, a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol):

“Desmond Green, 28, was driving a Dodge Durango north when he lost control of his SUV just before 6:15 a.m. near Sheridan Street. Green’s SUV veered into the path of a tractor-trailer, causing a chain-reaction crash that involved three additional vehicles.”

No criminal charges have been filed and no citations have been issued at this time, but the investigation is still ongoing, including the reason Green lost control of his SUV.

Green — who trains out of Hard Knocks 365 in Fort Lauderdale — most recently defeated Gleison Tibau via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 131 back in June. Prior to the accident, Green was scheduled to face Mairbek Taisumov at UFC Fight Night 136 in Moscow, Russia, next month (Sept. 15, 2018). It’s unclear at this time if the accident will change those plans.
