Promising UFC women’s strawweight contender Cynthia Calvillo will make her return from a six-month United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspension when she meets rising Brazilian prospect Poliana Botelho at UFC Fight Night 140 on Nov. 17 from inside Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Calvillo, who landed in the USADA dog house after testing positive for high marijuana levels following her loss to Carla Esparza back at UFC 219, revealed the November matchup via Instagram earlier today (Fri., Aug. 17, 2018).
Calvillo, 31, has produced a 3-1 UFC record since making her debut last year, defeating the likes of Joanne Calderwood and Amanda Cooper in the process. The Team Alpha Male standout has quickly solidified herself as one of the best wrestlers in the division, while recently showcasing an elevated striking game. She’s had some extra time to mature as a future contender so it’ll be interesting to see how Calvillo performs against a legitimate opponent like Botelho.
Botelho, 29, is coming off a 33-second TKO finish over Japanese combat veteran Syuri Kondo at UFC Fight Night 129 this past May. The talented striker now has four first-round finishes to her name and could quickly jump into title contention should she become the first fighter to stop Calvillo inside of the cage. Botelho will have a four-inch height advantage over Calvillo so she should have amply opportunities to let her hands fly.
UFC Fight Night 140 currently has no main event in place, but could feature the return of Argentina native and welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio.
