UFC ‘Knockout of the Week’ features Anthony Smith melting Rashad Evans in Chicago

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight bruiser, Anthony Smith, went from relative obscurity to 205-pound contender in less than a year, thanks to consecutive knockout wins over former division champions Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua.

The former is featured in the promotion’s “Knockout of the Week,” which dates back to the UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) event last June. That’s when “Lionheart” disposed of “Suga” with a nasty knee to the dome.

With a 6-2 record in UFC — including five knockouts — Smith can punch his way into a light heavyweight title shot by turning away former title contender Volkan Oezdemir at the UFC Fight Night 138 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Oct. 27 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

As for Evans, he walked away from combat sports in the wake of his devastating loss to Smith, which marked the fifth straight defeat for the 38 year-old ex-champ.
