Former Ultimate Fighter winner Diego Sanchez will make his return to the Octagon at UFC 228 on Sept. 8 from inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, when he takes on welterweight prospect Craig White, per an official announcement by UFC earlier this week.

Sanchez, 36, made his return to 170 pounds last November and ended up getting flattened by a Matt Brown elbow in the very first round. “Nightmare” hasn’t shown consistency inside of the Octagon in well over five years, but that hasn’t stopped Sanchez from turning in gut-wrenching performances one after the other. Fight fans still love to see the former TUF king compete under the bright lights of UFC, which is part of the reason the veteran has stuck around for so long. Another knockout loss could spell the end for Sanchez, though, so this may be his most exciting fight to date.

White, 28, is an English fighter known for finishing opponents in the first round. Unfortunately, White was the one who was finished early in his Octagon debut against welterweight contender Neil Magny this past May. The newcomer was filling in on short notice so the promotion is giving him one more chance to prove he belongs. A victory over Sanchez would certainly be a nice feather in the cap of “Thundercat,” but he must remain cautious with his UFC future at stake.

UFC 228 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight pitting current champion Tyron Woodley against undefeated English striker Darren Till.
