This past weekend belonged to Daniel Cormier, as the reigning light heavyweight champion made history by capturing the heavyweight crown with a huge knockout win over Stipe Miocic in the UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) main event.
In doing so, “DC” was able to win a division title that longtime rival, Jon Jones, has no claim to, unlike the 205-pound weight class where drug tests and legal problems — not Cormier victories — broke the once-beaten “Bones.”
But in case you forgot, Jones is on Twitter reminding fans how great he is.
“Just keep in mind that life is a journey and not a race,” Jones wrote. “If it’s in Gods will for me to still be here and healthy, please believe that they’ll be many more fights to come. Let’s not forget I’m still the youngest guy in the top 5 at HW & LHW.”
Jones defeated Cormier at UFC 182 by way of five-round unanimous decision, then again at UFC 214 by way of head-kick knockout; however, the latter was overturned when “Bones” flunked his post-fight drug test, which to date, has kept him on the sidelines.
As for “DC,” the Olympian is gearing up for a Brock Lesnar fight later this year, which would mark his first heavyweight title defense and his second-to-last appearance prior to retiring from combat sports next March.
