Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender and winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 19, Corey Anderson, recently extended his Octagon employment after putting pen to paper for the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
But he’s not going to have much time to celebrate.
That’s because “Overtime” has agreed to step in for the injured Ilir Latifi and fight former title contender Glover Teixeira in the upcoming UFC Fight Night 134 co-main event in Hamburg, Germany, on Sun., July 22, 2018.
Anderson (10-4) snapped a two fight win streak by turning away Patrick Cummins at the UFC Fight Night 128 event back in April. After jumping out to a 5-1 start to his UFC career, the 28-year-old power puncher is just 2-3, getting finished twice along the way.
“When opportunity knocks you answer,” Anderson wrote on social media. “I got where I am now, off the right opportunities on short notice fights and staying in the gym. Happy to announce that I have signed my fourth contract with the UFC and I will be fighting my 12th fight in my UFC career against Glover Teixeira in two weeks.”
Teixeira (27-6) has also struggled to remain consistent in recent years, alternating wins and losses after stopping Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 19. It hasn’t done much to hurt his position in the official rankings, where he stands fast at No. 3 in the division.
UFC Hamburg will be headlined by the FOX Sports 1 main event pitting former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua opposite 205-pound bruiser Anthony Smith, a fight that came together in the absence of Volkan Oezdemir.
