After dismantling Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 earlier this year, reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will move up in weight to challenge current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 tonight (Sat., July 7, 2018) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Miocic and Cormier also coached opposite one another on the 27th season of The Ultimate Fighter, which recently wrapped on FOX Sports 1 and featured undefeated lightweight and featherweight fighters.
Miocic (18-2) is coming off a huge unanimous decision win over world beater Francis Ngannou at UFC 220, in which he locked down his record-setting third consecutive UFC heavyweight title defense. Despite his recent dominance, which includes six-straight wins in a division designed for instability, Miocic is going to have his hands full with “DC,” especially considering Cormier is undoubtedly the best wrestler the champion has ever faced.
Cormier (20-1, 1 NC) made quick work of “No Time” via second-round TKO. The light heavyweight great has never been able to get over the hump against legendary fighter Jon Jones, but he will now have the opportunity to become the first active light heavyweight champion to move up and fight for the heavyweight crown.
Nothing left to do now except fight.
