Dana White’s “Tuesday Night Contender Series” returns to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) gym tonight (July 31, 2018) with another 10 mixed martial arts (MMA) hopefuls looking to join the rapidly expanding line up of new signees. Jim Crute, Sodiq Yusuff and Jeff Hughes secured contracts last week, while 18-year-old Chase Hooper became the second fighter signed to a developmental contract after Greg Hardy.
This week features four Heavyweight hopefuls, as well as interim LFA Middleweight Champion Ian Heinisch.

Garrett Gross vs. Roosevelt Roberts — Roberts def. Gross by submission (rear naked choke) at 2:13 of Round Two

DANA WHITE’S ‘CONTENDER SERIES’ PLAY-BY-PLAY RESULTS:
155 lbs.: Garrett Gross vs. Roosevelt Roberts
Round one: Roberts fires a 1-2 and then latches onto a guillotine. Gross gets an arm over Roberts’ shoulder , prompting Roberts to drop it. Pressing Roberts against he fence. Roberts reverses a minute in and changes levels. He gets Gross to a knee, then slams him into side control when he stands. Short right hands from Roberts, now in half guard. Two minutes in. Roberts constantly threatening a guillotine whenever Gross threatens to stand. Steady ground-and-pound. Two minutes to go.
Gross works his way up, slammed back down. Roberts postures up for some bigger punches. One minute to go. He passes to side control, then briefly has mount before Gross regains half guard. Solid shots from Robert, who threatens another guillotine. 10-9 Roberts.
Round two: Trading punches in the center to start. Gross ties up against the fence, gets taken down into guard. Roberts working his way to mount, gets it a minute in. Hard elbows from Roberts, then rapid-fire punches. More punches and now Gross gives up his back, immediately tapping to the RNC.
Final result: Roberts def. Gross by submission (rear naked choke)
265 lbs.: Don’Tale Mayes vs. Mitchell Sipe
Round one: Both men swinging right away. Mayes drops him near the fence, prompting a shot. Mayes defends it and they separate. Turns out it was a headbutt that did the damage. Sipe goes back to hurling right hands. One minute in. Mayes with an elbow and right hand, tries a flying something and gets taken down into side control. Mayes scrambles up, eating shots on the way up. Two minutes in. Low kick from Sipe. Mayes lands an elbow, avoids a head kick. Body kick connects, then Sipe kicks him in the nards. Two minutes to go.
Body kick from Sipe, then they clash heads again. Supe looks for a reactive takedown. Sipe wades in with haymakers, clashes heads again, eats a counter left. SHe shoots, eats Browne elbows. 10-9 Sipe.
Round two: Back to the sloppy slugging. Right hand from Sipe. Low kick lands. Mayes finds the mark with a left hook. Sipe continues slinging bombs, ties up on the fence. They separate after some uneventful action. More slugging. Two minutes in. This is terrible. Sipe lands a right hand, but now there’s a waterfall of blood suddenly pouring from his forehead. They pause to look at it. Leg kick from Sipe afterwards, avoids a spinning back fist. Two minutes to go.
Left hook from Sipe, who gets caught leaning with a left and eats hammerfists. He goes to his knees and Mayes starts pounding away. Left hands from half guard. Sipe covering up. Now elbows from Mayes. One minute to go. Full mount. Mayes trying to get him out of there before the bell. He manages to do it.
Final result: Mayes def. Sipe by TKO (punches)
185 lbs.: Ian Heinisch vs. Justin Sumter
Round one: Low kicks and an attempted shot from Sumter to start. Uppercut lands for him. Sumter to the body a minute in and he takes Heinisch down when the latter tries a flying knee. Heinisch looks for a guillotine, can’t get it. Sumter lands a couple of hammerfists, which allow Heinisch to threaten an armbar. Sumter uses it to pass to side control and take the back two minutes in. Heinisch manages to spin into guard after having to defend for a bit. Two minutes to go.
Sumter with a body triangle from his back. Heinisch landing elbows, opens a cut near Sumter’s right eye. Solid left hands, slashing elbow. More elbows and Sumter goes out.
Final result: Heinisch def. Sumter by KO (elbows)
145 lbs.: Jordan Griffin vs. Maurice Mitchell
Round one: Griffin aggressive early. Mitchell looks for a head kick. Griffin finds the mark with an uppercut, then a counter left that sends Mitchell’s mouthpiece flying. Mitchell eats it without issue and lands a leg kick a minute in. Mitchell tries another head kick. Check hook by Griffin. Mitchell comes back with a body kick. Lead right knocks Griffin back and Mitchell pursues. He ties up two minutes in, then exits with an elbow. Griffin shoots, sprawled on. Mitchell looking for a d’arce, but Griffin uses the fence to escape and stand. Two minutes to go.
Straight right by Mitchell. Body kick. Again after faking a level change. Griffin roars back, though, and drops Mitchell with a wide left hook. Griffin immediately jumps on his back and locks up the choke.
Final result: Griffin def. Mitchell by submission (rear naked choke)
265 lbs.: Juan Adams vs. Shawn Teed
Round one: Teed on the front foot early, staying aggressive and landing punches. Adams backs him to the fence and uncorks a series of straight punches that all find the mark. Teed ties up, can’t hold him. They’re both slugging. Teed goes for an outside trip, foiled by a whizzer a minute in. Adams forces him to the mat in half guard and blasts him with with punches before waving Teed up. Teed is slow to rise. He shoots in against the fence. Adams cracking him with punches from under the armpit and Teed pulls guard. Two minutes in. Teed looking for a leg, eating shots. Looking for a heel hook. Adams gets his leg out and goes back to thumping Teed, this time from side control. Two minutes to go.
Adams looks for the back, landing punches on the turtling Teed. More heavy blows as Teed goes to his back. Adams continues to bludgeon him. Now Adams takes the back and looks for a rear naked choke before taking mount and punching for the finish.
Final result: Adams def. Teed by TKO (punches)
