Jon Jones: I’m happy for Daniel Cormier, but UFC light heavyweight title ‘rightfully mine’

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, is not ready to call Daniel Cormier the 205-pound champion, despite the fact that “DC” is parading around town with the division strap.

That’s because “Bones” hold two decisive wins over Cormier, though one of them was recalled after Jones failed his UFC 214 drug test. Still, that won’t stop him for giving credit where credit is due, just as long as he’s able to get back what he believes is rightfully his.

“I could care less about Daniel Cormier, already beat him twice,” Jones wrote (via MMA Junkie). “Honestly happy for him, he deserves to be heavyweight champ. Just want back what’s rightfully mine.”

When and where that happens remains to be seen.

It’s been almost a year since Jones was provisionally suspended by USADA and we’re still no closer to a return date. Nobody can explain with any clarity what the hold up seems to be, but once he clears that hurdle, “Bones” will still be subject to this sentence.

At this rate, Cormier will be retired by the time Jones comes back.
