Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title contender, Volkan Oezdemir, is scheduled to appear in court on Mon., July 9, 2018, after his trial for felony battery was pushed back from its original dates in both May and June.
That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.
That may explain why Oezdemir had “No Time” for fellow light heavyweight slugger Mauricio Rua. “Shogun” was booked to fight the Swiss striker on two previous occasions, but once again the court delays forced that bout to be put on hold.
Instead, the Brazilian will move on to fight Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Night 134, according to ESPN, while Oezdemir battles Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 227, assuming everything goes according to plan next Monday.
Oezdemir’s legal trouble stems from last November’s alleged bar fight in South Florida (more on that fiasco here), but the light heavyweight bruiser continues to maintain his innocence.
