Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight great Jose Aldo fought hard-hitting Jeremy Stephens tonight (Sat., July 28, 2018) inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, live and free on big FOX. Aldo looked to return to the win column following the two most devastating losses of his career, two third-round knockouts against Max Holloway. With Holloway’s UFC future unknowable after the Hawaiian had to withdraw from his scheduled title defense with concussion-like symptoms, the winner would have a credible claim to a title shot in a doubt-filled division.
They touched gloves. Aldo had his usual defensive stance. He and Stephens threw out high kicks. Stephens landed a leg kick. Aldo returned the favor. Stephens stepped in and landed a knee to the body. They traded rear hands. Stephens stepped in with a hook and Aldo circled away from it. Aldo opened up with his big power punches ans STephens was unfazed. He buzzed Aldo! Aldo stood against the fence and defended with head movement, but ate a huge uppercut! He returned fire with big punches! Insane start to the fight. Aldo jabbed, low kicked. Stephens threw a spinning backfist that missed. Aldo landed an overhand. Stephens returned fire, landing a heavy right hand of his own. Aldo cracked Stephens with a huge body punch! Stephens went down, wincing in pain! Jose Aldo jumped on top, piling on the punches! Stephens tries to keep moving but eventually the referee had seen enough. Huge stoppage from the former champion! Stephens protested the stoppage, pushing the ref a little as he stood. Aldo was crying for joy as he celebrated his first finish since 2013.
