Dustin Poirier continued his tear throughout the lightweight ranks earlier tonight (Sat., July 28, 2018) at UFC on FOX 30 from inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, when he finally stopped former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez via second-round TKO.
Both men were on cruise control before the second round. But once the sixth minute began each lightweight waged unholy war. Alvarez was scoring well before Poirier landed a left counter and then a knee to the body. That was followed by an onslaught of punches and knees along the cage that would have stopped a small army. Alvarez survived on nine lives but eventually ran out after “Diamond” slammed one final elbow into his head.

With this performance, Poirier extends his current win streak to three, having stopped Justin Gaethje and Anthony Pettis before this rematch with Alvarez. “Diamond” would be flying home tomorrow with a title shot in hand, but Conor McGregor is back in town so Poirier will have to wait (for now).
Nonetheless, the 29-year-old put on a tremendous show and has never looked better.
