Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez, is slowly marching his way back to the 155-pound title, currently held by undefeated kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The next step in his quest to reclaim gold is what may be a title eliminator bout against streaking contender Dustin Poirier, a rematch that takes place in the UFC on FOX 30 main event this Saturday night (July 28, 2018) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Before we get to this weekend’s grudge match, the promotion wants to show you, the fickle fight fan, what kind of damage “The Underground King” can inflict when he’s in the zone. The best example of said carnage, at least in recent years, is his title-winning performance against then-champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 in summer 2016.
Alvarez (29-5, 1 NC) would cough up his crown to Conor McGregor in his very first title defense, then battle to a controversial No Contest against “The Diamond” at UFC 211 in May 2017. After a recent technical knockout win over Justin Gaethje, the former Bellator champ finds himself back in the Octagon with Poirier.
