Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches on its upcoming UFC on FOX 30: “Alvarez vs. Poirier 2” mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which takes place tonight (Sat., July 28, 2018) inside Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. UFC on FOX 30 will feature the highly-anticipated rematch between top-ranked lightweight contenders Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, who battled to a “no contest” at UFC 211 in early 2017. In the Calgary co-main event, former 145-pound champion Jose Aldo tries to get back into the win column against featherweight smashing machine Jeremy Stephens. In addition, ex-strawweight titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk looks to end her two-fight skid by turning away Tecia Torres.

Alvarez shoots, stuffed. Low kick by Poirier, Alvarez fires one in return and digs another right to the body. Alvarez with a slick combo inside. Short right hand. One minute to go. Round 2: Alvarez shoots, stuffed. Spinning back fist lands clean for him. Body shot met by a Poirier right hook. Poirier slips after throwing a kick, pulls his heat out. Now Alvarez shoots and Poirier jumps guard on a guillotine. Alvarez manages to slip free of Poirier’s guard and Poirier drops it. Alvarez with some right hands as they stand. Alvarez shoots again and Poirier tries another guillotine without success. Two minutes in. Alvarez looking for the back. Neck crank from Alvarez. He can’t get it, but manages to take mount. Alvarez throws a 12-6 elbow, tries to argue that it was to the shoulder. Which it was, but it’s still illegal. They restart on the feet. Body shot from Alvarez, gets clipped by a knee and now Poirier is opening up. Nasty knees by Poirier. More punches piling up. Alvarez is barely on his feet, but throwing back. Finally, Poirier’s incessant onslaught pays dividends, and “The Underground King” falls.

Round 1: Aldo flicks out a head kick. Stephens tries one soon after. Low kick lands for him. Aldo lands one in return. One minute in. Stephens lands a knee to the body. Inside low kick and sweeping right hand land for Aldo. Another leg kick. Two minutes in. Shovel hook by Aldo and Stephens chucks bombs at him. Counter right lands for him. He stings Aldo on the fence. Big uppercut! Now Aldo knocks him back with a right hand. Counter right from Aldo. Good right hand. Two minutes to go.

170 lbs.: Jordan Mein vs. Alex Morono
Round 1: Morono comes out hard, but gets clipped near the fence. They’re both slugging it out. Looping right lands for Morono. One minute in. Mein lands a body kick and Morono ties up on the fence. Mein hits a nice foot sweep into guard. He passes to half guard. Two minutes in. Morono regains guard. Overhook control for Morono. Ref stands them up with two minutes to go.
Mein marching forward, eats a right hand. Nice reactive takedown into half guard, quickly moves to side control. One minute to go. Morono regains half guard. 10-9 Mein.
Round 2: Mein catches a low kick, then takes Morono down once again. Half guard for Mein. One minute in. Mein looks to be trying to set up an arm triangle. Can’t get the pass he needs. Morono tries a sweep, settles for regaining guard. Two minutes in. Mein staying heavy, not doing all that much. Unsuccessful pass attempt. Two minutes to go.
Morono holding him close. Now Mein lets loose with a few elbows. One minute to go. A few more elbows. Morono doing nothing to stand. 10-9 Mein.
Round 3: Good right hand from Mein. Both swinging. One minute in. Morono tries a spinning back fist. Morono swinging heavy, not connecting. Right hand to the body. Now opening up against the fence, stuffs a takedown and takes half guard. Two minutes in. Mein retains butterfly guard. Morono fishing for a front headlock. Two minutes to go.
Morono takes mount with a guillotine. Mein rolls him over into half guard. One minute to go. Mein tosses his legs up for a triangle/armbar, misses it, and now Mein’s looking for a front choke. Morono rolls his way free. 10-9 Morono.

145 lbs.: Austin Arnett vs. Hakeem Dawodu
Round 1: Low kicks from Dawodu to start. One minute in. Arnett tries a head kick, eats a leg kick. Another leg kick. Another leg kick and Arnett’s feeling it. Two minutes in. There’s the head kick-leg kick sequence again. To the inside this time. Arnett shoots, can’t keep hold of him. Two minutes to go.
Yet more leg kicks to the inside and outside. Arnett shoots in behind a right hand without success. One minute to go. Head kick from Dawodu. Another low kick connects. 10-9 Dawodu.
Round 2: Dawodu rips a body shot and low kick, eats right hands in return. Overhand right from Dawodu, another body shot. ANOTHER body shot. Dawodu threatens a takedown a minute in. One minute in. Right hands from Antigulov. Cutelaba kicks him off, has to avoid a back take on the way up. Two minutes in. Knee from Antigulov in the clinch. Ansaroff tries to kick her away and manages a technical standup. Ansaroff goes back to the leg kick. Counter right from her as Markos steps in. 10-9 Markos.
Round 2: Ansaroff lands another pair of hard calf kicks. Another. One minute in. Markos shoot in, Ansaroff limp-legs out. More low kicks, wheel kick attempt. Markos starting to switch stance. Right hand by Markos two minutes in. She steps in with a left hand, eats a body kick. Switch head kick from Ansaroff and another leg kick before stuffing a takedown. Two minutes to go.

One minute in. Herrera lands a few more body shots and Powell falls, trying to wave him to follow. Again Herrera goes to the body, but suddenly gets crumpled by a pair of body kicks. Well that was a sudden change of fortune.
