Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will be back in action this fall as he takes on former featherweight title challenger Chan Sung Jung, better known as “Korean Zombie,” at UFC Fight Night 139 on Nov. 10 from inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the main event matchup with MMAjunkie following initial reports by BJPenn.com and ESPN.com earlier today.
Edgar, 36, suffered his first career knockout loss at the hands of undefeated featherweight contender Brian Ortega at UFC 222 back in March, but rebounded nicely with a unanimous decision win over veteran Cub Swanson at UFC Atlantic City just one month later. The UFC legend has nothing left to prove at this point in his career, but a win over “Korean Zombie” could end up landing Edgar his third UFC title shot at 145 pounds.
Jung, 31, returned to action last year following a massive layoff to fulfill his South Korean military duties. Upon his return, the fan favorite put a beating on divisional veteran Dennis Bermudez via first-round knockout. Unfortunately, an unexpected knee injury has left the featherweight finisher sidelined ever since. A return victory over “The Answer” this November should push Jung closer to another shot at featherweight gold.
UFC Fight Night 139 will mark the 25th anniversary of UFC 1, which took place on Nov. 12, 1993 in Denver.
