Since becoming “champ champ” after knocking out Stipe Miocic to claim the heavyweight strap at UFC 226 on July 7, 2018, Daniel Cormier has been a very popular man, getting called out left and right by fighters in both divisions.

Yoel Romero started his campaign to have his first-ever fight at 205-pounds to be for “DC’s” Light Heavyweight strap, while Alexander Gustafsson wants Cormier to leave the belt behind if he wants to keep fighting the big boys. Furthermore, Stipe has been calling for an immediate rematch against the dual-division champion. And let’s not forget Jon Jones, who is ready to kick Cormier’s ass in the division of his choosing.

Now, Ilir Latifi (ranked No. 4) has joined in on the fun, as he took to Instagram to call for a light heavyweight title fight against Cormier.

Mister Pound for Pound! Lets give the fans the best possible show at LHW! Shogun is a legend, and a great fighter, but I’m the only one at the top of LHW that has 5 wins out of my last 6 with 3 KO’s and 1 submission in the first round! I’m one of the most active fighters in the division! Let us both heal and set it up! You said it yourself: “Ilir Latifi is the strongest guy I’ve ever trained with.” And with my 100% takedown defense, we all know this will be a slug fest! You never know, I might just take you down once for the fun of it. Let’s rumble in NYC! LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Meanwhile, Mauricio Rua is sitting pretty at the moment as he is one of the few men Cormier is actually interested in fighting against before he faces Brock Lesnar in what would be his retirement fight next year.

Of course, “Shogun” has to defeat Anthony Smith this weekend (Sun., July 22, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 134 in Hamburg, Germany to earn his shot. As for Latifi, why not have him welcome Romero to the 205-pound weight class?

Just a thought.
