Bellator 202 ‘Budd vs Nogueira' streaming play-by-play updates

Bellator 202 “Budd vs. Nogueira” takes place TONIGHT (July 13, 2018) at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma, featuring a Featherweight title defense for reigning “Jewel” Julia Budd (11-2) and her undefeated challenger Talita Nogueira (7-0).

In addition former Bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas (20-5) takes his first bout since losing the belt against recent Bellator newcomer Michael “Mayday” McDonald (18-4).

BELLATOR 202 “BUDD VS. NOGUEIRA” PLAY BY PLAY:

Julia Budd vs. Talita Nogueira

The champion Budd is 11-2, fighting out of Port Moody, British Columbia. The challenger Nogueira is 7-0, fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Blue gloves and black/yellow trunks for the challenger wearing a white tee. The champ Budd has on red gloves and white/blue trunks with a matching top. Nogueira is 2” taller and 5’10” but a half inch shorter in reach at 68.5”. Our referee for the main event is Jason Herzog.

Round 1: Budd takes the center standing tall. Nogueira bounces and feints with her hands, leaning forward and teasing a takedown. She’s the first to throw a kick. Budd backs away after the second and resets. Another kick lands for Nogueira but this time Budd comes forward, so Nogueira throws another leg kick. Two minutes in and not much else has landed. The crowd is getting understandably impatient. Nogueira throws a body kick, Budd catches it, hoists Nogueira high in the air and SLAMS her to the mat. Budd has side control and is throwing left elbows and right hands. Budd traps an arm and then tries to go for a face crank. Nogueira tries and fails to sweep her. 10-9 Budd.

Round 2: Budd’s confidence looks to have grown after that strong finish to R1. She’s coming forward now and popped Nogueira in the face with a right, following with a left high kick and a right leg kick. Nogueira is backing up. Front face kick and leg kick for Budd. Nogueira’s response kick is a dude. Left jab for Budd. Nogueira with a good right hook. Budd with a push kick. Budd is bouncing on her feet and pawing with her left. Right hook and Budd pushes Nogueira into the fence. Knees to the legs and thighs. Budd is using underhooks and head control to keep Nogueira just where she wants her against the fence. Knee to the body. Left hands to the face. Budd lands an elbow followed by a HARD knee to the body and Nogueira crumbles to the ground. Herzog is taking a close look. 30 seconds remain. More elbows and a right hand to the chin. This is a definite 10-9 borderline 10-8 for Budd.

Round 3: Budd is anxious to start the third round. Nogueira throws kicks but is constantly backpedaling. Budd flurries and drives her into the fence at 58 seconds. Another left knee to the body at 1:12. Nogueira is pushed to the ground at 1:35. Budd stands in front of her, kicks the leg, then throws a straight right hand down the pipe before getting on top. Budd is in half guard but might as well be in full mount based on body language. Nogueira’s face is quickly becoming a bloodied and bruised up mess. Nogueira fishes for a leg and Budd just pulls out of it immediately and drops another right straight down the middle. She’s in the full guard but this isn’t good news for Nogueira. Budd backs up and forces Herzog to stand her up. She gets up VERY slowly. Left high head kick for Budd. Push kick by Nogueira. Big left hook for Budd. Hard left kick and HUGE RIGHT HAND. The fight’s over as Herzog saves Nogueira at 4:07!

Final result: “The Jewel” Julia Budd retains via TKO at 4:07 of the third round.

Eduardo Dantas vs. Michael McDonald

The former world champion Dantas is 20-5 and looking to rebound after his loss to Darrion Caldwell last year. He’s a Nova Uniao fighter out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. McDonald comes in 18-4 having picked up a win in his Bellator debut against Peter Ligier last year. He fights out of Modesto, California for Oakdale MMA. McDonald sports blue gloves and white trunks. Dantas sports red gloves and black trunks. Our referee in charge is Jacob Montalvo.

Round 1: Respectful glove tap starts us off. McDonald opens it with a leg kick. Dantas bobs and weaves coming forward. Dantas gets dropped with a right hook at 49 seconds and McDonald jumps on top to pour on left hand head shots, forcing Montalvo to make the save at under a minute in. This is OVER!

Final result: Michael “Mayday” McDonald wins via first round knockout at 0:58 R1.

Chris Honeycutt vs. Leo Leite

Leite has on the blue gloves and red/purple trunks, sporting a 10-1 record, his lone loss to date coming against “Mr. Wonderful” Phil Davis. Honeycutt has on the red gloves and white trunks, 10-2 (1 NC), his last loss coming against Rafael Lovato Jr. Leite fights out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Honeycutt fights out of Fresno, California. Our referee is Jerin Valel.

Round 1: Gloves are tapped and the fight’s underway. Honeycutt throws a spinning leg kick. He comes forward swinging, resets and throws another leg kick. He keeps spinning his way toward Leite and making him back up. He just misses with an uppercut. Leite lands a left jab. Honeycutt with a flurry, but he slips and Leite takes his back, and he takes Honeycutt down with a trip and gets both hooks in on the back as Honeycutt stands back up. He throws elbows at Leite’s left thigh and Leite slips off, he trips Honeycutt back to the ground but can’t keep him there, and they battle for position against the cage. Honeycutt throws knees. Leite tries to turn him around after a shoulder shrug to the chin. They both throw hands and break at 4:10. Honeycutt lands a right and a knee to the chin, pushing Leite into the fence. Leite throws an overhand right that misses as Honeycutt backs up. 10-9 Honeycutt.

Round 2: Another glove tap opens R2. Honeycutt forces Leite to brings his hands up to block a head kick, but he eats plenty of leg kicks. Jumping knee appears to land as they clinch then break at 48 seconds. Right hook lands for Honeycutt. Two knees. Leite goes for a trip but Honeycutt takes his back and then throws more knees against the fence.Elbows are landing too. Honeycutt trips a leg and jumps on top in half guard to punish Leite more. He has the left arm trapped for a bit but Leite finally gets it free. Blood is streaming into Leite’s eyes. Honeycutt works the body and the head mercilessly. Leite sits up against the fence but eats more rights. Leite puts his hands down and the ref warns Honeycutt he’s a grounded opponent. Leite finally stands full up at 3:56. Honeycutt keeps him against the fence throwing knees. Valel stops it at 4:20 to give somebody a mouthpiece and it quickly resumes. Knees to the body and head for Honeycutt. Another 10-9 round.

Round 3: Honeycutt is staying busy with his hands and threw in a body kick for good measure. Leite shoots for a takedown, Honeycutt sprawls, then he spins to take Leite’s back. Left hands to the body and head as Leite tries to get to his knees and roll. Honeycutt smells it coming and winds up on top in full guard. He’s making Leite miserable by grinding the left arm into his face. Two minutes gone. Valel calls for more work threatening to stand them up. Honeycutt backs up of his own accord to force the stand up and Leite gets up VERY slowly. Leg kicks for Honeycutt. Right hook. The blood is flowing again. Leite eats an uppercut as he backpedals. Honeycutt paws with the left and keeps the right hand cocked. He pushes Leite into the fence and his corner screams “KNEE HIM! KNEE HIM IN THE HEAD!” Leite slips away at 3:45 but not for long. Here come those knees. Leite stumbles to the ground and Honeycutt pours it on. 45 seconds. Leite keeps playing the “I’m up, no I’m down, no I’m up” game so Honeycutt can’t throw knees. Leite is warned to fight back. Honeycutt’s trunks are now covered in Leite’s blood. A dominant 10-9 round for what should be a unanimous decision.

Final result: Chris Honeycutt wins via 30-25 X3 unanimous decision.

Valentin Moldavsky vs. Ernest James

7-1 to 1-0, 26 to 27, 6’1” to 6’3”, 232 to 261 and 75” to 83” reach from Moldavsky to James. Moldavsky has the red gloves and James the blue. James fights out of Fresno, California in the blue trunks. Moldavsky fights out of Stary Oskol, Russia in the red trunks. Our referee in charge is Mike Bell.

Round 1: A tap of gloves gets us underway. James lands a right leg kick. Moldavsky is moving inch by inch forward and back trying to feel the range. He connects with a right hook. Bell warns them to watch the clashing of heads. James sails over the head with a kick. James ties up in the clinch. Bell calls for work at 2:19. Moldavsky turns James around and nearly takes him down. Another call for work at 2:52. Moldavsky with a left as he breaks away. Moldavsky pushes James into the fence and throws knees to the legs. They separate at 3:48. Right and left land flush for Moldavsky. James misses with a spin kick. Big combo at 4:40. Moldavsky rocks James in the closing seconds. 10-9 round for Moldavsky.

Round 2: Another glove tap. Right hook for Moldavsky at 30 seconds. They clinch up again at the minute mark. James looks a little bloody on the close-up. Moldavsky with a sneaky uppercut as he breaks. Another combo for Moldavsky at 1:44. James drops levels but gets turned around and put against the fence, with his blood leaking onto Moldavsky’s back. Bell calls for work at 2:18. Again ten seconds later. Moldavsky breaks away at 2:36. Big right hand for Moldavsky at 3:05. James left eye is swollen to where I don’t think he can see out of it. He gets creamed again at 3:48 and again seconds later and stumbles backward. Moldavsky pours it on and Bell jumps in to save him. The left jab set up the finishing sequence but it was the right hook to the closed left eye that made him wobble and go backward for the finale.

Final result: Valentin Moldavsky wins by technical knockout at 4:03 of round two.

Jon Hill vs. Rudy Schaffroth

Hill is 12-6, 6’0”, 256 lbs. and has a 72” reach. Schaffroth is 4-0, 6’4”, 252 lbs. and has a 77” reach. Schaffroth fights out of Clackamas, Oregon in the black trunks and blue gloves. Hill is in the silver trunks and red gloves out of Oklahoma City, OK. Our referee is Jacob Montalvo.

Round 1: Schaffroth comes out throwing leather at Hill immediately and has him rocked 15 seconds into the fight. Once he goes to his knees the ground and pound from behind his back is fierce and Montalvo has finally seen enough and saves him via TKO at 42 seconds.

Final result: Rudy Schaffroth wins via technical knockout at 0:42 of the first round.

Fernando Gonzalez vs. Tyler Ingram

Gonzalez is 3-0 in the red gloves and black trunks, Ingram 1-0 is in the blue gloves and also has black trunks. Ingram has a 2” reach advantage, 73” to 71”. Ingram fights out of Wichita, Kansas while Gonzalez fights out of San Jose, California. Our referee is Jerin Valel.

Round 1: Gloves are touched at center and Ingram immediately starts winging punches. Gonzalez steps in and out carefully on the outside. Ingram gets his gloves up to protect his head. Both men fire off leg kicks. Ingram momentarily backs Gonzalez up to the fence. Gonzalez is hunting for the left hook and setting it up with his right jab. Ingram tries to clinch but is unable to hold on. He tries again, pushes Gonzalez to the fence and gets a knee up the middle. Ingram hits a takedown after the fighters are warned not to grab the cage. Ingram takes the back after Gonzalez gets back up and executes a beautiful suplex. Ingram tries to pass from half guard to side control with short time left in the round but is content to pound away instead. 10-9 Ingram.

Round 2: Between rounds the replay shows us multiple kicks Ingram landed to Gonzalez’ right leg. 16 seconds into R2 Ingram has landed another. Ingram has pushed Gonzalez into the fence for some pressure and nearly throws a knee to the head - Gonzalez slips out of clinch at the last second. The leg kicks are really hurting Gonzalez - you can see the look on his face each time one lands. Ingram kicks him again at 1:40 and Gonzalez falls down. At first Ingram considers letting him up but then he gets on top passes to side, goes for a kimura and then gets full mount. He slices Gonzalez up with some NASTY elbows. Transition to side control and multiple right hands. Ingram tries to spin to the back to get hooks in and ends up sitting on his side. 3-4 hard right elbows in a row land. Valel is taking a close look right as Ingram gets his arm under for a rear naked choke and Gonzalez quickly taps.

Final result: Tyler Ingram wins via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:13 in round two.

Emily Ducote vs. Veta Arteaga

Ducote is 6-4, Arteaga is 3-2. Ducote is the younger at 24 to 30 but everything else is virtually identical. Arteaga has a full bodysuit and blue gloves fighting out of Boise, Idaho. Ducote sports the green top and trunks with red gloves and fights out of Oklahoma City, OK. Our referee is Jerin Valel.

Round 1: Touch of gloves and we’re underway. Arteaga has Ducote backing up and circling on the outside immediately. Ducote drops levels for a possible takedown then lets go at 57 seconds. Arteaga keeps coming forward. Ducote is throwing leg kicks that connect even as Arteaga keeps coming at her. Ducote gets a takedown off a level change at 2:01 and passes to side immediately. She spins to take the back and then transitions to an armbar. Arteaga escapes and we’re back on the feet with two minutes left. Arteaga throws multiple punches and kicks but Ducote gets her to the ground again. She’s back up with 80 seconds left. Arteaga with knees to the body. Arteaga and Ducote trade simultaneous right hooks. Arteaga pushes Ducote into the cage and stomps on her feet. Ducote gets a takedown and the hooks in going for a rear naked choke twice. The second one could have worked but Arteaga was saved by the bell. 10-9 Ducote.

Round 2: Arteaga charges forward to open up R2. Arteaga is taken down again at 1:18. Ducote is in side control and jumps to the back with one hook in. Arteaga spins her way on top and is throwing elbows. Ducote is fishing for an armbar. Arteaga gets side control and then peels a leg away for left hammerfists to the head. Two minutes remain. Arteaga avoids another armbar attempt and is stacking Ducote up for some hard shots to the body and head. Valel is looking at the fight closely. Multiple left elbows and right hands. She stacks Ducote up again with 50 seconds left. Big rights and lefts with the elbows. Ducote takes knees to the body and a flurry of punches but survives. 10-8 Arteaga.

Round 3: Ducote with a head kick as Arteaga presses forward. Arteaga lands a combo that makes Ducote backpedal. Ducote tries another head kick but it grazes. Arteaga with a right hook and a leg kick. Ducote momentarily stuns Arteaga with a hook but can’t get the takedown. Arteaga responds with shots of her own. Ducote swings and misses with the right. The combo lands. Ducote gets the takedown at 2:34 but Arteaga is right back up and hits her own takedown. Ducote is trying to go for a reverse leg lock and it does enable her to get back up with just over a minute left. Arteaga is bleeding from a cut near her left eye. Ducote hits her with two more big shots to the same spot. Arteaga answers with a flurry back that bloodies Ducote’s nose. 10-9 Arteaga.

Final result: The judges score it 29-27 and 30-27 X2 all for Veta Arteaga.

Gerald Harris vs. Yaroslav Amasov

Harris is in the black trunks and red gloves for this fight. Amasov is in the red trunks and blue gloves. Harris is 25-6 and Amasov 19-0. Harris has a 77.5” reach and Amasov 76”. Amasov fights out of Kiev, Ukraine. Harris fights out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our referee in charge of this fight is Mike Bell.

Round 1: Glove tap is offered by Amasov and Harris accepts. Amasov shoots for a single leg early but can’t get it to the ground. He does get some good knees to the body though. They break at the one minute mark. Amasov dances around Harris and throws leg kicks. Harris stays on the outer circle and steps slowly side to side, winging an occasional left while pawing at the range with his right. Amasov finally gets the takedown he wanted at 2:07 and takes the back. Amasov can’t keep him from getting back up at 2:48. More push kicks and leg kicks by Amasov in the center. Amasov wings a right hook and Harris steps back. Amasov goes upstairs with a kick. Right hook by Amasov. Amasov hits two lefts and Harris hits a right as he backs up. Amasov with another single leg at 4:43. Amasov has a front headlock at the bell. 10-9 Amasov.

Round 2: Amasov with another single leg attempt early in R2 that pushes Harris to the fence. He escapes at 0:32. Front kick up the middle by Amasov. Amasov with a spinning backfist at 2:09. Body kick by Amasov. Nothing has put Harris away yet and he’s still walking toward Amasov but his offense is lacking at this point. He’s getting outpointed 5-to-1 in striking exchanges. Amasov throws a combo and a flurry and Harris one shot. Harris gets rocked by a left hand and is warned by Bell to move as he drops to his knees eating punches. He turtles up as Amasov is looking for a submission. Harris stands up at 4:13 but still looks unsteady on his feet. Head kick by Amasov. Amasov shoots for a takedown and doesn’t get it. The jumping knee does work. 10-8 Amasov.

Round 3: The doctor checks Harris over before the start of R3 and clears him to continue. The two touch gloves. Sean Grande and Chael Sonnen are speculating about whether or not Amasov injured his right foot on the late head kick in R2. Harris lands a left and has Amasov backing up. Amasov clinches in response and dumps Harris to the ground at 1:34, immediately in side control, purposefully moving to full guard to keep Harris grounded. Amasov is warned about shots to the back of the head. Harris bucks him off and gets up at 2:40 then gets warned not to grab the fence multiple times. Amasov drags him back down at 2:56. Harris gets up for a split second at 3:40 and is taken right back down. Harris gets to his knees and finally gets up again at 4:32 looking for a takedown of his own. Amasov breaks free with 15 seconds left. He should easily take a unanimous decision.

Final result: The judges score this contest 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 all for Amasov.

Will Morris vs. Charles Williams

2-2 for Williams. 3-0 for Morris. 72” reach for Williams and 75.5” for Morris. Morris has the blue gloves with black/yellow trunks and fights out of Houston, Texas. Williams has the red gloves and trunks and fights out of Lancaster, Texas. Our referee is Jacob Montalvo.

Round 1: Morris charges to the center immediately at the opening bell. Williams throws leg kicks. Morris clinches up for a knee then resets. Face kick lands for Morris. Leg kick too. Williams is almost entirely on defense. Honestly this looks like a welterweight fighting a flyweight even though they were both lightweight for this bout. Morris has him hurt at 2:26. He keeps landing the right hooks and Williams is running away and is turning away. Montalvo didn’t stop it. Morris gets rocked with another right hook and dives for the legs looking to save himself. Morris considers a guillotine lets it go and gets on top. Williams has a defensive headlock. Montalvo warns him to get busy or it will be stood up. Morris breaks out of it with 43 seconds left. Williams puts it right back on. He breaks out again for hard elbows to end R1. 10-9 Morris.

Round 2: Leg kicks for Morris. Left hooks by Williams. Head kicks by Morris. Spinning heel kick by Williams. Hard uppercut for Morris. And another. Leg kick Williams. 1-2 combo and a head kick for Morris. The height difference is so big we can see the bald spot on top of Williams’ head when the camera is focused on him. Morris with a flurry against the fence at 2:51. Right hook by Morris. Head kicks both ways. Leg kick and head kick and right hook for Morris. Another hard right at 3:59. Outside leg kick Morris. Flurry against the fence at 4:35 for Morris. Leg kick for Williams. 10-9 Morris.

Round 3: Tap of gloves for the third and final round. Left head kick for Morris. Left jab. Stinging kick with the right leg for Morris. And another. Another makes Williams stumble at 1:01. Yet another at 1:15. One more 10 seconds later. Knee to the body by Morris. These kicks sound like drumsticks slapping together. Big right hook at 2:15. Left head kick for Morris follows. Williams gets one right hand to the head. Leg kick for Morris. Inside leg kick for Morris. Left head kick. Left hook. Right hook. Williams just keeps backing up. Right leg kick and right hook. One minute left. Another kick. Another at 4:26. Williams gets one good shot off but gets swept to the ground. 10-9 Morris.

Final result: 30-25, 30-27 and 30-26 all for Will Morris.

Steve Kozola vs. Ryan Walker

Kozola is 8-2 with a 73” reach, his opponent Walker is 7-3 with a 74” reach. Walker fights out of Las Vegas, NV with the black trunks and blue gloves. Kozola fights out of San Diego, CA in the white trunks and red gloves. Our referee is Jason Herzog.

Round 1: Kozola and Walker waste little time throwing stiff shots at each other. Kozola isn’t worrying much about defense - he’s more interested in throwing shots than keeping his hands up and it works as he drops Walker to his knees with a combo. The second time Herzog sees enough and waves it off after one right hand while he’s down. Considering Walker was dazed and unresponsive there’s no doubt it was the right call.

Final result: Steve Kozola wins via technical knockout at 1:45 of the first round.
