It looks like UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will meet former Olympic medalist Henry Cejudo in a title rematch at UFC 227 on Aug. 4 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
After the 125-pound reboot was rumored to be in the works earlier this week, the promotion confirmed the co-main event booking during tonight’s UFC 225 broadcast from Chicago, Illinois.
Johnson, 31, is coming off a fifth-round submission victory over Ray Borg back at UFC 216 in which he set the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses (11). “Mighty Mouse” previously defeated Cejudo via first-round TKO back at UFC 197. It should be noted that the champ is coming off shoulder surgery.
Cejudo, 31, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Sergio Pettis at UFC 218 this past December. Before that, “Messenger” finished former title challenger Wilson Reis via second-round TKO. Cejudo has improved his striking greatly since first matching up with “Mighty Mouse” two years ago so the rematch should produce a longer affair.
UFC 227 will be headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between current champion T.J. Dillashaw and former titleholder Cody Garbrandt.
