Charles Oliveira made history earlier tonight (Sat., June 9, 2018) at UFC 225 from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois, when he choked out veteran lightweight Clay Guida via first-round guillotine, tying the legendary Royce Gracie for the most submission finishes in UFC history (10).
The man known as “do Bronx” looked great in this fight. Guida tried to bounce around and come inside for some offense, but Oliveira defended nicely and countered with a crisp jab. After catching Guida along the cage he was able to grab a hold of “The Carpenter’s” neck and transition to the ground. From there, the Brazilian squeezed tight to finish Guida via guillotine choke just over two minutes into the first round.

With this performance, Oliveira gets back into the win column after getting finished by Paul Felder at UFC 218 in Detroit. The former featherweight is hoping to return to the 145-pound division and make another run at that title, but will UFC finally grant Oliveira the permission to move back down?
He may have earned it with this showing.
