Before Yoel Romero attempts to dethrone middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 225 this weekend (Sat., June 9, 2017) in Chicago, Illinois, take a look back at “Soldier of God’s” brutal knockout win over Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 70 back in 2015.
After a cautious start from both men in round one, Romero picked up the stalking pace in round two, as Lyoto was obviously content with playing the counter game. In round three, however, Romero scored a takedown and then proceeded to quickly landed eight unanswered elbows on Machida’s mug to put him out for the count.
For “The Dragon,” it was the the latest speed bump in a tough stretch.
Now, Romero will look to seize his latest opportunity to get one back against “The Reaper” after losing to him just last year. In the process, “Soldier of God” looks earn his first-ever UFC title after he was ineligible to win the interim strap with his knockout win over Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 due to missing weight.
