We’re just a little over a week away from UFC 226 — which is set to go down on July 7, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada — but the pay-per-view (PPV) event couldn’t escape the injury bug.
According to MMA Junkie, Yancy Medeiros has been forced out of his Welterweight scrap against Mike Perry. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani later confirmed the Hawaiian-born fighter suffered a broken rib.
Yancy Medeiros is out of next week's UFC 226 fight against Mike Perry due to a broken rib, sources confirm. UFC actively looking for a replacement to fight Perry on the card. No one signed yet. First reported by @mmajunkie.— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) June 28, 2018
But not all is lost, as Paul Felder — who normally competes at Lightweight — was tasked to step in and face “Platinum” on one weeks notice. “The Irish Dragon” wasn’t too pleased with the promotion when he was notified that his upcoming fight against Mike Vick had been scratched in order allow Vick to step in and face Justin Gaethje after Al Iaquinta bolted from UFC Lincoln.
It’s a wacky game of musical chairs indeed.
It’s the best move UFC could make on such short notice, plus UFC makes it up tp Paul after “slapping him in the face” for the second time this year. Paul is currently riding a three fight win streak, while Perry is trying to climb back into the win column after dropping back-to-back fights.
