UFC 226: Can Max Holloway defeat the Mexican cupcake of death?

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is heading into what could be the biggest featherweight title fight of all time, or perhaps the biggest since Jose Aldo vs. Conor McGregor, when he collides with top contender Brian Ortega in the UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) event next month in “Sin City.”

With that in mind, “Blessed” is prepared for anything, even a death match against a Mexican cupcake, as Ortgega — the son of Mexican immigrants — will “fight to the death” in their championship co-main event.

“Back in the day, they used to fight to the death, and that’s what he fights for,” Holloway told MMA Junkie. “He pretty much fights to the death. He fights for the finish. He’s dangerous all the time, he’s dangerous all rounds, so I’ve got to step up my game. At the end of the day, Brian’s just another cupcake – but a different flavor, and I like horchata.”

Holloway (19-3) is riding a 12-fight win streak with nine finishes, including his back-to-back technical knockout victories over Aldo at UFC 212 and UFC 218. “Blessed” hasn’t seen the loss column since going to the judges’ scorecards against McGregor in late 2013.

Ortega (14-0, 1 NC), meanwhile, punched his ticket to a 145-pound title shot -- and kept his undefeated record intact — by smashing former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in the UFC 222 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event last February in Las Vegas, Nevada.
