Alexander Gustafsson being considered for UFC 227 return in August

Two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title contender, Alexander Gustafsson, has competed just five times since his epic five-round war against Jon Jones roughly five years back.

To put that in perspective, reigning 205-pound kingpin, Daniel Cormier, fought 10 times during that span. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise to learn both UFC and “The Mauler” are working to get the 31 year-old Swede back into the Octagon for the first time this year.

Where and when?

“UFC still has interest in Alexander Gustafsson on UFC 227 in Los Angeles on Aug. 4,” wrote ESPN correspondent Brett Okamoto. “That card is sitting at 10 official fights. Gustafsson is open to it, but wants something that makes sense. Latest discussions have involved Ovince St. Preux, who won last weekend.”

Gustafsson (18-4) was last seen beating the brakes off Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109 back in May 2017. Prior to that, “The Mauler” turned away Jan Blachowicz by way of unanimous decision in Germany.

To see the current UFC 227 fight card and line up, set for Sat., Aug. 4, 2018 inside Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., click here.
