Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) strawweight contender, Claudia Gadelha, went under the knife this week to correct a nagging knee injury, one that hampered her winning performance against Carla Esparza at UFC 225 earlier this month in Chicago.
“Surgery went well guys, big thank you to my loved ones,” the 29 year-old Brazilian wrote on social media. “Love you all!”
I’m sure by “all” she was not including Esparza, who levied some pretty serious allegations at “Claudinha” following their “Windy City” showdown. According to “Cookie Monster,” Gadelha won their fight by greasing.
A charge she vehemently denies.
No telling yet what the future holds for the No. 3-ranked Gadelha (16-3), but working in her favor is the fact that Joanna Jedrzejczyk is no longer champion of the division. In addition, the Brazilian has never faced Rose Namajunas, current keeper of the 115-pound roost.
One or two big wins and “Claudinha” could be right back in the strawweight title hunt.
