Lightweights Gregor “The Gift” Gillespie faced off with Vinc “From Hell” Pichel tonight (June 1, 2018) live from the Adirondack Bank Arena in Utica, NY, live and free on Fox Sports 1. Gillespie was undefeated, while the underdog Pichel had won four straight.

Pichel looked to land a one-two, Gillespie threw a left hook, shot in and put Pichel on his back with a determined single-leg. He moved to side control, looking for control and short punches and elbows from a dominant position. Pichel sat out and Gillespie moved to to a headlock, threw a knee as Pichel got up. He shot in again, took Pichel down again. Pichel got up, Gillespie took him down again. He landed punches from half guard this time. He moved to mount, flattening Pichel. Pichel got back to his base and stood up, Gillespie flurried as he stood and shot in again, denied this time. Pichel drove forward, stopped Gillespie’s initial shot but Gillespie took an angle to a single-leg and took Pichel down again. Gillespie looked for an anaconda choke as the clock ticked down, was unable to finish it before the round ended.

Gillespie picked Pichel up bodily off a single-leg and slammed him down to start the second round. He moved straight to side control. PIchel got his base back but Gillespie held on to the wrestler’s ride, landing a nice hook from the top. He took Pichel’s back for a moment. Pichel kept trying to get up, Gillespie kept tossing him down. With a minute left he locked up an arm-triangle and moved to side control. Pichel tapped! Unable to defend the suffocating pressure of Gegard Gillespie, who deserves a top opponent next.

Happy fishing to Gregor Gillespie, who says he is planning on taking the boat out tomorrow morning. He gave credit to Pichel for getting back out from under him repeatedly, but said it’s all about persistence, like water to a rock- the water will go through the rock eventually. He refused to call out anyone, but said he is going to go fishing all week.

Official result: Gregor Gillespie def. Vinc Pichel via submission (arm triangle) at 4:06 of Round 2
