Talking trash has never been Donald Cerrone’s forte. If anything, “Cowboy” prefers to play it cool with his opponent all the way leading up to fight night, then go out and deliver a show.
For others, taking a few digs at the opposition seems to be the way to get amped for an upcoming showdown. And Leon Edwards hasn’t been shy in throwing a few verbal jabs toward Cerrone ahead of their headlining bout this weekend (Sat., June 23, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 132 inside Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.
For Cerrone, creating friction where there is none is simply unnecessary.
“Yo, Leon, there is no need for us to be angry with each other right now. He called me old and slow. So I told him he has to go home an tell his mamma that an old and slow man beat your ass.”
As a result of Leon’s digs, he will now face a “pissed off” version of Cerrone when they collide in a crucial welterweight matchup on UFC Fight Pass.
“Leon Edwards, young, up-and-coming fighter that does not want to play fair. He wants to run his mouth and tell the world all the things he is going to do to me,” he added. “It’s good, go ahead. I tried to be cordial and I tried to be cool. Now you are getting a pissed off ‘Cowboy.’ I don’t even have to talk to you after I beat your ass, so that’s cool.”
You’ve been warned.
Edwards is currently riding a five fight win streak, tearing it up in the 170-pound division with wins over Albert Tumenov and most recently Peter Sobotta, whom he knocked out a few months ago in London, England.
A win over Cerrone will be the biggest notch on his belt so far, and will go a long way in setting up a potential bout against his fellow countryman, Darren Till. But will “Cowboy” pull out some old tricks and slow down the 26-year old’s momentum?
