Former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar will be unable to fight later tonight (Fri., June 1, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 131 from inside Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y. after the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) rule her medically unfit to compete, per a recent report by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
Aguilar was scheduled to fight Jodie Esquibel in the Fight Pass preliminary headliner.
While full details of Aguilar’s condition haven’t been released, the 36-year-old reportedly showed signs of a medical mishap Thursday. Even after getting cleared by doctors yesterday at the request of the NYSAC, Aguilar was ultimately ruled out by the commission earlier today.
Per MMA Fighting, Aguilar said she was removed from action due to “chapped lips.”
“NY commission is horrible and don’t understand everything we go through to make it here,” Aguilar told Helwani. “It’s absolutely crazy and heartbreaking.”
Here’s a photo, taken moments ago and provided to me by Aguilar, of Aguilar and Esquibel backstage. She said they both agreed that they want to re-book the fight ASAP. They were already at the venue when they got the news. pic.twitter.com/Wa2Pf6CIps
