Not that I was expecting some Cyborg-Smith type shit, but I certainly thought Georges St-Pierre would be a much bigger favorite over Nate Diaz — even at lightweight — for their proposed bout at UFC 227 in August.
Instead, “Rush” opened at -200 against +160 for Diaz, according to Bovada. Nothing is official at this time, but promotion president recently teased the French-Canadian’s return, assuming these lingering issues have been rectified.
St-Pierre already held gold at both welterweight and middleweight, so it’s not unreasonable to think that a trip down to 155 pounds could land him yet another legacy fight title shot. He first has to make the weight, then win, and Diaz certainly won’t make it easy.
Then again, maybe he will, based on what we saw here.
UFC 227 could also feature the light heavyweight showdown between Luke Rockhold and Alexander Gustafsson, with the winner expected to challenge Daniel Cormier for the 205-pound strap later this year.
