Everything went as planned for WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last night (Sat., May 5, 2018) live on HBO from inside StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., as the undefeated superstar put an end to late-filler Vanes Martirosyan via second-round knockout.
While Martirosyan landed a nice combination towards the end of the first round, the veteran stood little change against GGG after taking the last two years off. “Nightmare” tried to land in the close exchanges, but Golovkin leaned on his jab well en route to landing heavy power shots in Round 2. A ridiculous set of combinations along the ropes finally put Martirosyan to the canvas, forcing the referee to rifle through his 10 count.

With this victory, Golovkin secures his first finish inside of the ring since a fifth-round TKO over Kell Brook in London back in 2016. This win is a far cry from what GGG could have accomplished against Canelo Alvarez, but that rematch will have to wait even longer.
