Max Griffin vs. Curtis Millender is in the works for the card. Close to being finalized, sources say.
Griffin, 32, got back into the UFC win column this past February when he defeated hard-hitting Mike Perry via unanimous decision. Before that, “Pain” struggled to find consistency amidst a 1-2 record, which included a 2016 TKO loss to Colby Covington. Griffin seems to have turned a corner in his UFC career and is a name on the rise entering the second half of 2018.
Millender, 30, burst onto the UFC scene with a vicious knockout win over former welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves earlier this year. The Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) standout looks primed to run a mock outside of the division’s top 15, but will need a big win over Griffin to catapult himself into a matchup against a ranked opponent by year’s end.
UFC 226 will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight pitting current champion Stipe Miocic against UFC light heavyweight king Daniel Cormier. The co-main event will be between UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and undefeated challenger Brian Ortega.
