Before squaring off later tonight (Fri., May 4, 2018) at Invicta FC 29 live on Fight Pass from inside Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri, women’s flyweights Pearl Gonzalez (7-3) and Barbara Acioly (4-2) had to step on the scale yesterday for official weigh ins.
While Acioly weighed in one third of a pound over the flyweight limit and forfeited 20 percent of her purse, the bigger story was the scuffle that nearly ensued between the two main card fighters.
In the above video, courtesy of Invicta FC, you can see Gonzalez and Acioly come nose-to-nose in an intense staredown. The face off quickly turned violent when Gonzalez walked into Acioly’s hand, which promoted the 25-year-old Brazilian to take a swing at Gonzalez’s pearls (no pun intended).
Luckily, Invicta FC officials were in place to break it up before things got out of hand. While it’s always intriguing to see how two competitors act towards one another 24 hours from a fight, fight fans will have to way until later tonight to see who is the badder female flyweight.
Gonzalez will be looking to lock down her second-straight victory under the Invicta FC banner, while Acioly aims to end a two-fight losing streak dating back to early last year.
