WBA, WBC, IBF, and IBO Middleweight boxing champion, Gennady Golovkin, collides with former Junior Middleweight title challenger, Vanes Martirosyan, tomorrow night (Sat., May 5, 2018) at StubHub Center, Carson, Calif., airing live on HBO Boxing. Golovkin was supposed to rematch Canelo Alvarez; however, the Mexican striking sensation was pulled from the event because of a failed drug test. And Golovkin wasn’t happy about it. At all.
Nevertheless, the show — which will be shown on regular HBO rather than pay-per-view (PPV) — must go on. Even if Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KO) — a lifelong Super Welterweight whose most notable performances came in narrow losses to standouts Demetrius Andrade and Jermell Charlo — is a huge underdog. That’s because he’s coming off a two-year layoff dating back to a decision loss to Erislandy Lara, whom Martirosyan had fought to a technical draw in 2012.
Golovkin and Martirosyan will step on the scale this afternoon for the official weigh-in, starting at 4 p.m. ET in the video player above.
Official Weights:
Gennady Golovkin: 160 lbs.
Vanes Martirosyan: 159.6 lbs
Cecilia Braekhus: 145.8 lbs.
Kali Reis: 144.8 lbs.
Remember, too, that MMAmania.com will have LIVE coverage of “Golovkin vs. Martirosyan,” starting with the HBO Boxing broadcast at 11 p.m. ET tomorrow evening.
See you then!
