Things didn’t go well for rising UFC welterweight contender Darren Till earlier today (Sat., May 26, 2018) at UFC Fight Night 130’s early weigh ins, missing weight for his main event clash with Stephen Thompson by 3.5 pounds.
This marks the second time Till has missed weight for a UFC fight, having tipped the scales five pounds over for his UFC Fight Night 109 preliminary bout with Jessin Ayari.
Till, who was granted an extra hour to weigh in due to a family emergency, initially missed the two-hour window before stepping on the scales at 174.5 pounds. Thompson, on the other hand, met the welterweight limit of 171 pounds.
While “Wonderboy” still has to accept a fight with the bigger till, his father, Ray Thompson, doesn’t believe his son will drop out of UFC Liverpool’s headliner.
“Listen, Till called us out! He’s been a bit disrespectful during the course of promoting this fight. We came across the world, into HIS HOME TOWN, in front of HIS PEOPLE, AND WE MADE WEIGHT! Stephen is a fighter and would never want to disappoint the fans (short of illness) and came to fight! His management is working out the details,” Thompson Sr. told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
UFC Fight Night 130 takes place tomorrow (Sun., May 27, 2018) live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.
