Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, has a favor to ask mixed martial arts (MMA) fans.
“The Chosen One” would like any leftover smelling salts used to wake people up after the main event of UFC Chile, to be packaged up and sent to Kamaru Usman so that “Nigerian Nightmare” can return to consciousness after getting smashed in his proposed title fight.
“You know what Kamaru Usman, congratulations, number one, never want to take the credit [away], Demian Maia’s a tough opponent,” Woodley said after the fight (via MMA Fighting). “Me, as the champion, I’m always welcome to any challenger, just make it to that point, I’ll be on the other side of the Octagon. I did see a couple of things if you do against me you might end up waking up with the smelling salts. But hey, hats off to you, great job.”
Usman defeated Maia in the main event of UFC Fight Night 129 last Saturday night (May 19, 2018) on FOX Sports 1, a less-than-spectacular showing that may have been caused by injured hands or adjusted percentages.
Considering his already-contentious relationship with promotion president Dana White, Usman will probably have to wait for the winner of the this fight to get the first crack at Woodley at some point this summer.
